I lost my job recently. As a 62-year old female my chances of being hired in my industry is slim to none. Add in the current employment issues, and it falls to impossible.
Due to being a mom to a special needs child, I have a long gap between jobs and my Social Security was affected by that. If I retire early, I'll receive a whopping $1300 per month to live on. Oh, and I'm still supporting that now-adult special needs kid while fighting for years to get him Supplemental Security Income from the Social Security Administration.
After hearing that Marge Green is retiring from Congress and finding out she gets over $8000 per month for her pension, I got really, really angry. That's my tax money. That's your tax money. This is on top of these representatives receiving almost $175,000 a year for that position. And on top of that yearly salary they get compensated for travel, a budget to decorate their office, stellar health care, and more perks that the majority of everyday Americans are denied. No health care or food for the peasants.
Now that we have a debt in the trillions, should we continue to pay these people so much money when they are basically doing NOTHING for their constituents? If we need to root out waste and abuse let's start with wages for elected government workers. Start cutting from the top instead of the bottom; that will save LOTS of money we can either reinvest in our country or put towards our debt. Same thing for these giant corporations. Put a cap on how much these useless CEOs get - or better yet, replace them with AI. AI works 24/7/365 and doesn't need to be paid billions of dollars. No one needs a billion dollars, it's impossible to spend it in one lifetime.
